We follow up last week’s topic of setting race goals with a discussion on assessing your body and listening to the “good sore” feeling. We also talk about our plans to run the Philadelphia and Dam Full marathons, my dizziness problem from earlier in the week, and Jeff surprises me with a memento.

Great podcast this week! Dam Full sounds totally fun. You guys really need to try the Megatransect someday. (http://www.ultrahike.com) Allan, you especially would like it with the bloody knees and the boulder fields and all that jazz.. There were no stream crossings the year I did it, but we ran in a lot of dry creekbeds so it might have just been a dry year.
You can add me to the list of people who will be running Philadelphia. I'm not sure if I'm doing the half or the full since I'm running Baltimore in early October. The practical side of me says do the half in Philly but I almost always opt for the full marathon. I think I've told you guys before that I run a maraton training group so I'll be there with them either running with them or playing cheerleader in the dull zone along Kelly Drive.
Someone else talked to me about Megatransect. It sounds like something I'd enjoy, BUT it's already full this year and I believe it's the same weekend as the (also-mega-fun) Tussey Mountainback 50-mile relay. Overall though, I have to say that I like the idea of branching out from typical road marathons into some more unusual events.
As Philly gets closer, we'll announce plans for a meet-up. It will probably be post-marathon post-shower meet-up at a place like Hard Rock. That seemed to work out last year and we enjoyed running into other runners and their lovely post-race glow.
Glad to hear that the dizziness was only an ear infection and nothing worse. If you get a chance, go ahead and snap a picture of the 'famous' shoes for all to see!
Thanks,
Jay
Another great show guys. You have the best podcast on itunes. Two questions for you Allan. Have you seen the movie Running the Sahara? I highly recommend this movie. It is amazing what these 3 guys did. Also, I know you mentioned that you bought your first bike. Would you recommend the type of bike you bought? Listening to you talk about your love of running and biking has inspired me to try a half ironman in late 2010. I ride my bike for an hour twice a week. I am weak in the swimming part. I also wanted to thank you and Jeff for taking the time to do this podcast. I hope your show will be around for a long time. Jaydog.
