Laying out my running stuff

Before going to the race expo, price I have learned to lay out all of my stuff: hat, gerontologist shoes, more about gloves, shirts, tights, pants, underwear, socks, technology, gels, etc… If I’ve forgotten anything, I can always pick it up at the race expo.

This picture was actually taken after the expo. I have my number that is already half-pinned to the vest I’ll be wearing. Missing from this picture is the SPI belt that I’ll be wearing to help carry the ginger chews that I’ll be taking along (from ZombieRunner.com). Ginger chews are a nice and refreshing during long runs and they can help settle your stomach if that’s a problem.

Laying out my running stuff

Before going to the race expo, price I have learned to lay out all of my stuff: hat, gerontologist shoes, more about gloves, shirts, tights, pants, underwear, socks, technology, gels, etc… If I’ve forgotten anything, I can always pick it up at the race expo.

We talk about things like the weather, the course being hillier than we remembered, friends who were running, and our overall performance. Let’s just say that I set a PR and Jeff did extremely well.

Jeff and I are finally in the studio together again. Laying out my running stuff

Before going to the race expo, price I have learned to lay out all of my stuff: hat, gerontologist shoes, more about gloves, shirts, tights, pants, underwear, socks, technology, gels, etc… If I’ve forgotten anything, I can always pick it up at the race expo.

This picture was actually taken after the expo. I have my number that is already half-pinned to the vest I’ll be wearing. Missing from this picture is the SPI belt that I’ll be wearing to help carry the ginger chews that I’ll be taking along (from ZombieRunner.com). Ginger chews are a nice and refreshing during long runs and they can help settle your stomach if that’s a problem.

There is more gear here than normal. I’ll be taking the iPod to track my pace throughout the course. The iPhone is so I can get text updates from as other runners cross milestones along the way. The Mino video camera is to record the race experience. And then there is a lot more clothing than normal because it is supposed to be in the mid to upper 20’s when the race starts. It won’t be so bad after we get started and the sun comes up, but while we’re waiting for the race to begin, it’s going to be chilly. That’s also why I got some hand warmers.

Most of this recording was made while team “In it for the T-Shirts Too” ran the Tussey mOUnTaiNBACK 50-mile relay through the hills of central Pennsylvania. The weather was beautiful and I have never had that much fun at a race!

Laying out my running stuff

Before going to the race expo, price I have learned to lay out all of my stuff: hat, gerontologist shoes, more about gloves, shirts, tights, pants, underwear, socks, technology, gels, etc… If I’ve forgotten anything, I can always pick it up at the race expo.

This picture was actually taken after the expo. I have my number that is already half-pinned to the vest I’ll be wearing. Missing from this picture is the SPI belt that I’ll be wearing to help carry the ginger chews that I’ll be taking along (from ZombieRunner.com). Ginger chews are a nice and refreshing during long runs and they can help settle your stomach if that’s a problem.

There is more gear here than normal. I’ll be taking the iPod to track my pace throughout the course. The iPhone is so I can get text updates from as other runners cross milestones along the way. The Mino video camera is to record the race experience. And then there is a lot more clothing than normal because it is supposed to be in the mid to upper 20’s when the race starts. It won’t be so bad after we get started and the sun comes up, but while we’re waiting for the race to begin, it’s going to be chilly. That’s also why I got some hand warmers.

9.5 hours until the race starts. I’m going to get to bed soon.


After finishing the Philadelphia Marathon today, stuff Jeff and I went to a mall food court to make a quick podcast. We talk about things like the weather, the course being hillier than we remembered, friends who were running, and our overall performance. Let’s just say that I set a PR and Jeff did extremely well.
After a few weeks off, help Jeff and I talk about what our training has been like lately, sildenafil what races we’re planning for 2009 and beyond, the Triathlete’s Training Bible, and some product reviews. Thanks again to all of those who wished us well before our marathon or congratulated us afterward.

After the holidays and my vacation in Orlando, this site Jeff and I talk about the holiday damage, treatment the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, our interest in triathlons and ultramarathons, using Borax to control smelly clothes, and the value of investing (in your health and finances). Get that body moving in the new year folks, it’s going to be a good one!

The major topic this week is the cycle-thon, buy
which was my first group ride (for charity of course). It was a beautiful day. My bike was running nicely. I was having a blast – until – EPIC WIPEOUT! Helmets are a good thing!

The major topic this week is the cycle-thon, buy
which was my first group ride (for charity of course). It was a beautiful day. My bike was running nicely. I was having a blast – until – EPIC WIPEOUT! Helmets are a good thing!
This week, view I talk a bit about my ongoing triathlon training. Although I didn’t plan it, pills I mention Brandon (from Brandon’s Marathon Podcast) about a dozen times on this podcast. That’s okay. He has been my inspiration to do my first triathlon and has guided me through equipment and training, so it seems appropriate.

    Listened yesterday during my long run. Another great show.

    Just wanted to comment on your gear list. A few weeks ago I was asked to speak to a group of 1st time triathletes who were are doing their first sprint tri in May. I came prepared with info about the race, a transition check list and some other helpful hints. In addition, I packed up a lot of my gear to demonstrate how I would set up my transition. Well…I had forgotten that it took my 6yrs to accumulate all of the gear and that it might be overwhelming to a person just getting into the sport. And when some of the participants asked ‘what are tri shorts’ and ‘why do I need them’ and ‘they cost HOW MUCH!?’ I realized that I needed to take a step back and give just the basics for what you need to do a sprint tri.

    I think the gear list you started is a great way to remember what you bought, how much it all cost AND let people new to the sport know exactly what they are getting into.

    I’ve been listening to your podcast for a few months, and it is for sure one of my favorites. As an aspiring distance runner and a Penn State Alumna I may be a little biased.

    Allan, you’ve mentioned that you’ve danced in THON twice. Is there anything from your dancing experiences that may help in Jeff’s ultra-marathon goals? I know that when I danced the delirium was surprisingly difficult. It seemed to take on a different level when general tiredness was combined with continuous physical exertion.
