Jeff and I have gotten together and selected our next marathon. It looks like we’ll be doing the Flying Pig Marathon on May 4th, 2008 in Cincinnati, Ohio. It should fit our criteria: not too hot, not too far, Spring marathon, big event. In addition to the marathon, they also have a 5K, 10K, and half-marathon, so if you’ve been thinking of running a race, you’re welcome to join us!

Yesterday, Andrew and I went to Herwig’s, a local Austrian restaurant. They don’t have many vegetarian options, so we got the Kartoffel (something or other) again. It’s 2 fried potato cakes served with a lettuce and cabbage salad with dill dressing. It tastes like my Hungarian grandmother’s cooking and looks like this:

Kartoffel

It’s fried potatoes, so it’s probably bad for me, but it’s total comfort food. I could probably eat it twice a week without getting sick of it. Anyway, Herwig’s does have a couple other vegetarian options. They’re going to call me when they will have one of the other dishes on the menu. I’m looking forward to it.

Building up to the marathon and immediately afterward, I felt great, but a week after it was all over, I hit an odd funk that lasted for a few days. I checked with Jeff this morning and he had a similar reaction a few days after the marathon.

I’m back to normal now. I got in a 2-hour workout on Saturday, which felt good. Jeff and I are going to sit down to look through the marathon schedule in Runner’s World and see if there is a spring run that we can shoot for. It’s always nice to have something to train for on the horizon.
